Building a movie database website or entertainment blog is an exciting project, but hosting actual video files is incredibly expensive and technically complex. Our Free TMDB Video Player Embed solves this entirely. It allows webmasters, bloggers, and app developers to display high-definition video content directly mapped from The Movie Database (TMDB).

Videasy automatically handles the complex backend tasks: API lookups, decentralized source routing, video transcoding, and cross-browser playback compatibility. All you have to do is copy and paste a single line of HTML.

How to Get Your TMDB ID

Before you can embed a video, you need its unique identifier. TMDB (TheMovieDB) assigns a specific number to every piece of media.

  1. Visit themoviedb.org and search for any movie (e.g., "Inception").
  2. Look at the URL in your browser's address bar. It will look like this: themoviedb.org/movie/27205-inception.
  3. The number 27205 is your TMDB ID.

The Embed Code

Once you have your ID, simply insert it into the Videasy iframe code. We highly recommend wrapping the iframe in a responsive container so it scales perfectly on mobile devices and large desktop monitors alike.

<!-- Responsive 16:9 Container -->
<div style="width: 100%; aspect-ratio: 16/9;">
  <iframe
    src="https://videasy.xyz/embed/movie/27205"
    width="100%" height="100%"
    frameborder="0"
    allowfullscreen>
  </iframe>
</div>

Completely Free to Use

The standard Videasy API is provided completely free for developers and webmasters. There are no bandwidth caps, no registration walls, and no complex API keys to generate. Just pure, unadulterated video streaming infrastructure at your fingertips.

TMDB video player, explained without jargon

A TMDB video player is a player that finds a title by its TMDB ID. TMDB is the catalogue — it knows that a film or series exists, what its ID is, and what seasons and episodes it has. The player is separate: given that ID, it plays the title in an iframe. Confusing those two jobs is the most common source of broken embeds. People try to use an IMDb ID, or a title name, or a year, where a TMDB ID is required, and then wonder why the player loads the wrong title or nothing at all.

Finding the right TMDB ID, every time

1

Open themoviedb.org and search the exact title. Do not guess from memory. Search, and open the result that matches title, year and poster.

2

Check the title type. A film and a series can share a name. Make sure you are on the film page for a movie embed, or the series page for a TV embed.

3

Copy the number from the URL. That number is the TMDB ID. For TV, also note the season and episode numbers from the same TMDB series page.

TMDB player URLs, side by side

Movie

/embed/movie/{TMDB_ID} — one number, one film, no season or episode.

TV episode

/embed/tv/{TMDB_ID}/{SEASON}/{EPISODE} — three numbers, one exact episode.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a TMDB ID, and where do I find it?

A TMDB ID is the numeric ID for a title on themoviedb.org. Open the title on that site and copy the number from the page URL, after checking title, year and poster.

Can I use an IMDb ID in a TMDB video player embed?

No. TMDB and IMDb use different numbering. A TMDB player embed needs the TMDB ID, not the IMDb ID.

Does a TMDB video player need a TMDB API key?

No, not for the embed itself. The embed needs only the TMDB ID in the URL. A TMDB API key is only needed if you separately fetch metadata from TMDB.

How do I embed a specific TV episode with a TMDB player?

Use the TV URL form with three numbers: the TMDB TV ID, the season number, and the episode number, as shown on this page.
